Poughkeepsie Water Treatment Facility

Poughkeepsie Water Treatment Facility
Location: Poughkeepsie, New York

The Poughkeepsie Water Treatment Facility in New York, which serves nearly 80,000 people, required a major upgrade to increase the city’s clean water supply. The new structure treats water from the Hudson River and infuses it with ozone to produce safe drinking water. We worked with C.O. Falter Construction Corp. on the cutting-edge facility to provide rebar and accessories.

Our Whitacre Engineering team efficiently managed all the logistics to make this project a great success. The construction site was five hours away from our fabrication shop, requiring greater planning on our end. Estimator Tim Conner and Detailer Tracy Brown strategically prepared for each construction phase, keeping our shipments timely and maximizing truck loads.

With over 20-foot tall exterior walls and a maze of interior walls, the treatment facility required 365 tons of rebar. The complex structure used heavy reinforcement to strengthen walls to withstand the water pressure. We also incorporated rebar of varying heights to accommodate the different wall elevations inside the structure.

Jeff Reed, the ironworker foreman for the project, raved about the consistent communication between all parties. “The coordination was seamless, which made my job easier to complete,” explained Reed. “We even completed our work almost four months ahead of schedule.”

There are many moving parts to constructing a water treatment facility, especially when coordinating from miles away. Our clear communication and planning at Whitacre Engineering kept us on track, paving the way for the completion of this large-scale project.

Poughkeepsies’ Water Treatment Facility now offers highly purified water for its residents. The newly constructed building safely houses ozone treatments that provide the most powerful oxidant and disinfectant capacity in commercial use.
