History

The Whitacre Engineering Company was formed by John J. Whitacre in 1920 at Waynesburg, Ohio for the purpose of buying and selling hollow clay tile fillers for structural floor slabs, steel, other building materials, and engaging in the general engineering and contracting business.

The Company has at times had offices in Chicago, Detroit, Cleveland, and Rochester, NY. After World War II the company’s primary focus shifted from flooring systems to furnishing and placing fabricated reinforcing steel as a unified and value added package.

Today the company primarily services the Ohio, New York, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia markets from its facilities in Canton, Ohio and Syracuse, New York.
